Style Inspired :: Jane Birkin

Birkin is a name that instituted itself in fashion history long ago. With her own Hermes bag, it is a name that will live in infamy. She established herself like all waif-ish social rearing models, by making a scandalous film of course! Her duet with Serge Gainsbourg, "Je t'aime...moi non plus" was too provocative for European media at the time and sent them into a whirlwind of criticism. The Vatican condemned the video and the BBC banned it for public viewing, mostly due to Birkin's heavy breathing. During the 60s, this could not have been more adored by public audiences and they embraced Miss Jane with open and loving arms. She turned the "fringe" (bangs) into an iconic look for the era and was soon emulated by fans all over the world. Her ability to wear simple, form-fitted mini dresses cut off with a belt, complimented with sheer tights or chunky leg warmers, and finished off with her father's old penny loafers created an impeccable and classic style.
