Food for the Soul

Now that finals have ended, term papers are completed, and a semester of stressful senior work is over, it is time to unwind. I have unpacked and nestled back into my mom's home in Connecticut for a month of some serious rest and relaxation while prepping for the holiday's and a new year. Amongst the typical hustle and bustle of Christmas shopping, cookie decorating, and cocktail hours with my hometown favorites, I have made it a point to read at least four books over the next month. Yes, that means at least one book a week. If I don't do it, I will not fail myself like my English professor, I will not denounce myself with unsatisfactory effort, and I refuse to wallow in guilt. This is purely a vacation goal for my intellectual pleasure and these are the books I have chosen to read (or re-read; for love of the written word does not one easily overcome) :

1. The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald (one of my all-time favorites)

3. The Road by Cormac McCarthy

3. Carter Beats the Devil by Glen David Gold

4. A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett (adored the movie, but never read the book!)

What will you be reading over the Holidays?

  1. I need to finish A Room with a View, but I really want to reread Moons of Jupiter by Alice Munro.

By the way, I can lend you The Road! Colin just finished it :)

  2. Think I'm going to be bad and indulge in fashion magazines and blogs. And of course, a Christmas Carol :) been scrolling through and you have a fab blog - definitely be back! Come take a sneaky peek or follow us at TBAG if you like?
    Have a lovely weekend :)

  3. A Little Princess was one of my favorite books when I was younger. Good choice! Over my break I read "In The Woods" by Tana French after someone let me read a few chapters on my train home from Boston. It was so good that I went to the library immediately afterwards to pick up a copy and finish it.
