Hey there, lovely ones. Festival season is upon us. After much debate, my bros and I made the painstaking decision of choosing 3 local festies (one, two and three) rather than 1 far and epic (and surely expensive). One of the most amusing parts of the summer concert series is people watching. Street style in Manhattan has nothing on a Further show in Bridgeport, CT.

As nutty as these folks can be, I also find them quite trendy. Most recently, I've picked back up on the 6th grade trend of friendship bracelets. That's right, everyone seems to be piling on the brightly colored chinese staircase. I love it.

Unfortunately, I was never talented in the DIY jewelry business. I darted at the call of arts & crafts in summer camp so now I seriously suck at all things string, gimp or hemp. But when in need of the beautiful and handmade, the artistically challenged always have our etsy heaven right? I found some beautifully pieces by Gold Hearted. My favorite being this:

The description says it's a classy update on the sailors knot and being a sentimental New Englander, I think they're right. Maybe I can convince my boyfriend to buy one since he's still rockin' the touristy sailor's weave I bought him from Hawaii. Yes, 5 months adds strange colors and smells to those things. For my color fix, I'm crushing Kaliste's etsy shop. Isn't this one amazing?

Refinery 29 just published a great article on these trendy pieces. Although personally, I'm not willing to spend $200 big ones on something my etsy heros can craft up for my ladies and I and all our summer adventures!

Style Inspired: Michelle Williams

I haven't done one of these in a while and my reason for choosing this lady is not because of her killer outfits or smashing makeup. Very simply, it is her sense of self. A confident style and subtle grace that is all her own kept quietly in a place no one can touch.

I watched Blue Valentine on Saturday afternoon. I will advise that if you try to avoid existential funks, don't even think about watching it. Otherwise, it's an amazing film about the reality of love and relationships. Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams equally broke my heart as I cried for the entirety of the movie and didn't leave my bed for the next 14 hours.

I hope there is a day I chop my hair pixie-like and dye it all silvery so I fit in with the stars. She looks stunning all in white.

Setting Sail

Every day this week I woke up with the irresistible urge to go. Anywhere. Now. It's an itchy feeling you can hardly ignore. Suddenly, you want a new job, a new home and new faces. So what to do? You apply to the Peace Corps in South Africa. Yes. You talk to your best in Chile about how you can't wait to come see her.Yes. Then you listen to the Buena Vista Social Club for endless hours and inspiration is nearly overwhelming. So you make a list of all the beautiful places you want to see and decide, you will go.

Turns out, it's very hard to fit the world on a list.

I decided I will start in South America, because I need to pick up my travel partner in Chile. After we tour the artsy streets of Santiago and stuff our bellies with empanadas, I will make her show me Argentina and Bolivia for wine and glaciers.

Then we will go to Southeast Asia. A place I know near to nothing but love love love the place I imagine in my head. Indonesia, Cambodia, Laus and of course, Thailand. I want to sleep in a hammock, eat a cricket, get a Bali sunburn and be completely uncomfortable.

We're still mapping the rest of our never ending adventure but I hope it goes all the way to the edge. I'll end today with some wise words from genius Einstein, The woman who follows the crowd will usually go no further than the crowd. The woman who walks alone is likely to find herself in places no one has ever been before.

P.S. I went with Natalie's doo. It hardly looks any different than before but I think travel plans will drive a true change soon.

Post Grad Haircut

I've been putting this off for a while now; the post grad haircut. I've known it was coming, and so has she, I've watched it happen for years. Some guy or gal graduates, settles on a job they think will boost a resume for an unforeseen future and they cut their hair off. "Who would hire someone with dreadlocks!" mothers say or "It's just easier to take care of," the girls say. Regardless, I think I'm just bored. It's been long and brown forever. Floral Arrangements

Do you know what I love most about this little blog project of mine? You. No matter how long I disappear or how frequently I procrastinate, no lie, you should see how many draft posts I have going here I somehow come back to find a heartwarming comment and maybe even a lovely new follower. I just want to say, thank you.

Recently, I have been on this expensive kick of buying flowers. Like real-live, need to be cared for and given water, blooming, flowers. I thought it would be a perfect fit with all the extra sunshine going around and also, I've always dreamt that one day I would be a flower delivery lady and my days were packed full with making people smile. Unfortunately, it turns out, I do not have a green thumb. I killed daisies within 48 hours.

This goes along with another recent realization that my oh-so-sweet boyfriend pointed out- I cannot cook. But does that stop me from trying? Never. Take note- I am persistent and mostly succeed...eventually.

As I work on my domestic skills, I have also been working on my spring closet. Let me tell you, I am gushing over yellow and teal. Most days I'll head over to visit Erin, usually around 3 p.m. when I feel like my cubicle will be my gravestone, and her posts just make me outright giddy.

The Daisy Age

Well, I feel like the most terrible friend. Sorry my head has been lost in the clouds these past two months. I mean this all too literally. I flew off for a life changing vacation to Hawaii for a hot/humid sec and have been completely swept away with paradise. I've been scouring Craigslist for surfing shacks and jobs on pineapple farms. Also, I turn 23 in just 3 days time and I feel it's time for some adventure. Exciting, yes?

I stumbled across these amazing photos of Lady Kate. It's a gorgeous spread for the old British mag, The Face, during the early 90's.

I love how fresh and natural she looks, with my favorite dangling side braid.

The shoot reflected the hippie trend called "The Daisy Age." Unknown to me, the term "Daisy" was an acronym from 90's hip-hop band, De La Soul, meaning "da inner sound, y'all." Awesome.

After this horrible winter, I can't wait to be back in my Maui maxi dresses trotting through the mud at a summer festie. Between Kate Moss's feather headband and the recent lineups announced here, here and here, I have the biggest butterflies for sunshine and summer.

Painted Beauty

I can still remember the very first Bonnie Bell lip gloss I bought and cherished in 3rd grade. It sparkled, it shined, but mostly...it tasted delicious. Growing up I was fascinated by makeup. I thought it was some mysterious art form that transformed you like a mood ring.

A little older, I can reflect back. I have experimented with the sparkle sticks, the white eyeliner, the blue eyeliner, the sun-in and everything else cheap and promising for an adolescent at CVS.

But let's be honest. At the end of the day, there's nothing quite like that amazing cleanser to wipe it all away. Keeping that much product in tact is exhausting! Amazingly enough, I've learned to minimize my life in the beauty department and leave the bright eyes, dark lips, or baby doll cheeks for special occasions.

That in no way means I love makeup any less. Seriously, I mean look at these ladies- blue eyes, yellow eyes, rhinestone eyes! It's a fabulously gorgeous art that I will continue to drool over.

Funny story. Last March, when I went here, I left my beautiful gray Peacoat somewhere between Boston and Mexico. No, I can't tell you how one loses a coat. No worries back then but now it's freezing and I need warm solutions! I stumbled upon ZARA's site and found an unbelievable stock of coats. Unfortunately, as one of my girls of girls informed me, they have no online shop (seriously zar zar?) so I'll be taking a trip to the City real soon to do the required purchasing.

The bitter cold of Fall has set in and more layers have appeared on my back, but it's that time of year when I notice everyone is having just a little more fun with their outfits. We think, "I need to stay warm." So we start with the classic cardi tied up in that scarf on top of the tweed skirt and of course you need those patterned tights all finished off with the ever-dependable boots. It's like survival of the most styled.

But come November, what's more fun than tweed and thigh-highs? Yes, a little animal print to throw your conservative closet a pre-holiday curve ball. And as promised here, it's 'bout time for some leopard. The faux kind, I like my leopards live and growling in the jungle...far away from me.

The girls around London seem to do the faux fur best. Note Rosie, Keira, and Alexa. My college roomie snagged the very best jacket at London's Portobello Road Market and I'm forever envious for not picking one up myself. Markets and vintage shops are a great place to find leopard print pieces since it was so big in the 80s and now making a comeback in such a fun way.

Interview: Brooklyn Designer, Lauren Nevada

I am so excited to introduce the talented Lauren Nevada and her covetable line that has me desiring a spontaneous trip to Paris, stat. Miss Nevada is based out of Brooklyn spreading her line in Barneys locations across the country. Lucky for my Boston readers, she just launched at Copley Place this summer! Having studied fashion in two of the world's greatest fashion monuments, Paris and Rome, Lauren has a knack for color, quality and feminine cuts. Her pieces are a dreamlike sophistication making an easy transition from work to play. With all of her incredible experience, I'm so happy Lauren stopped by to offer up her fashion insight!

What defines your style philosophy?

The woman who has many interests and is very involved in everything around her. Someone who reads esoteric books, cooks, decorates her own furniture, organizes gardening parties or listens to historic music. I love the idea that each person can be so individual and extreme in their own personality and can be energized by this.

Favorite place to shop?

Vintage and second hand stores.

Beauty secret?

Smile.

Your favorite color and why?

Lavender actually. It can be so many different things, it is a very specific color yet it is all around us and often goes unnoticed.

You have 15 minutes until happy hour with the girls. You look in your closet, there’s nothing to wear- a working girl’s m.o. What do you put together?

When in doubt keep the outfit simple, this way people will have to take a closer look to get to know you and this makes for an interesting evening.

Who (or what) has inspired your fashion career?

Hard to say… although I had a great black and white picture of Coco Chanel with model Suzy Parker on my wall growing up. I found it in a Vogue magazine and popped it in an extra frame with some brown velvet fabric behind it.

What was the greatest advice you were ever given?

My grandmother never stopped telling me how strong women are. This probably played a very large role in my childhood.

Describe your perfect day.

It would be a mixture of good food, time with friends and a nap. It would involve several outfit changes, some exercise and good music if I can fit that in as well.

What should a girl never be without?

A good book to pull out and read whenever things get boring.

Where do you see yourself and your line in 5 years?

Hopefully still having as much fun with it as I am now. I hope to be traveling more often and doing more collaborations with artists each season. Bringing different creative people together is so rewarding, hopefully this is something that I can continue to build on.

Sunday Funday

I have to admit, I've never been a fan of Sundays. Since my school days when it meant a long week of early rises and boring classes, that lingering sensation that Monday is just around the corner, I could never fully enjoy the so-called "Day of Rest."

Then this thing called Football entered my life. Yeah, I heard of it. I even attended those parties for that Superbowl a few times, but I thought I was watching commercials not Clash of the Titans. Last year I was never introduced to the Sunday games because my guy actually went to a game every. single. freaking. Sunday.

Now it has become a mandated Sunday activity. And Monday. And sometimes Thursday nights. So in my efforts to better enjoy my Sundays at the new apartment and wholeheartedly embrace Football, I have decided to throwback to the nostalgic Americana dream. Football Parties.

I'm looking forward to fountains of Budweiser, gourmet pizza, the spiciest wings (serious bad call on the white couch), all to be outfitted in Jerseys and some competitive screaming matches. Despite all my efforts, my guy tells me the television is the most important part. So, I'll probably need to replace my enormous 1996 Hitachi with one of these. See you at game time!

Evenin' Pumpkins! Many exciting things happening over here in the otherwise boring CT. On Friday, I made the big move out of Mama Dee's Litchfield nest to my very first apartment! Of course the adjustment will be no great feat since I'm still living with big bro Timmy and I've only jumped about 30 minutes away, but I'm feeling like a grown up already.

I already purchased a white sofa, here. Wait, did I mention I'm living with big mess Timmy? Bad choice lil' sis.

I've been handed some life lessons this year and at the end of the day, when my world slows down and my stomach stops churning, I realize that taking time off is best.

Well, cyber-vacation is over for now and I have lots of fun in store. It's time to slip on your best pair of Choos, throw down your locks, and find the nearest Vespa. We are going for a ride to discover design, fit into fashion, and find bliss in a dreamland of beauty.

So Long Summer

My summer has somehow slipped by without the slightest glimpse of the ocean, tan lines, or sniff of chlorine. That bikini-ready body? Forget it. I put on my washed-out, saggy-bum bikini from last year maybe twice these past three months.

Quite frankly, I’m freaking out. I want to work, be successful, and wear the power suit, but does that mean sacrificing the sun and cocktails with your girlfriends at 2 p.m. on a Tuesday? Someone say no. And tell me where you work.

My boyfriend asked me the other day what I have read lately. I looked at him so defensively, ready to list off at least... I had nothing. Well, I did have The 2020 Workplace. Yes, that would be required reading. So not only have I failed at summer in sun and sand but I have also failed in fun and freedom.

Well, until I find that perfect balance of work and play. Here’s where I daydream...

Designing Dessert

There is something to be said for a place that both entrances your sweet tooth and the ever-hungry design eye. Mexico's very first French macaroon bakery has created a sophisticated all-white interior popping with the bright likes of Coco, Pistache, Chocolate Frances, Praline, The Vert, The Chai, Patelos de Rosa, and of course, Caramelo Suave.

Welcome to Theurel & Thomas. A dream for those of us always seeking an intriguing indulgence. I imagine you will be greeted at the luxury encasement by the candy man, decked in a red and white striped suite, tall top hat and glass cane.

A white room without many windows can create an odd discomfort, but a large mirror and proper lighting opens up the space with a cosmopolitan subtlety. Those yellow and pink side table snacks are surely just for decoration...wink, wink.

A Chanel-esque label invites patrons on the door to this exclusive address. Now, just jot this info into your little black book and catch a flight to Mexico. I’ll meet you in a few hours to sit atop a soft white sofa to munch on Cafe Veracruz macaroons.

How classic and feminine is this spot? A dainty sculpture shying away from her sugary desires. The intricate placement on a simple white drawer is resourceful and chic. I love how the edging on the drawers match the molding on the walls. The architectural patterns and deep moldings make fascinating shapes stand out against the seemingly washed out backdrop.

I can't think of a better treat than white and pink. The detailed porcelain bowls overflowing with rose colored cookies is a perfect way to explain the delicacy behind this simple dessert.

What I truly adore about this whole interior, is the absence of over-label. Between retail, hospitality, and food industries, store’s have a habit of branding every square inch of their interior. For Theurel & Thomas, they know their brand and they want you to know it right when you walk in- Macaroons. You can’t miss them so just go ahead and taste them. The rest is simple just like their design, sit and enjoy!

Greetings students of elephants!

You might have noticed that Molly and I sometimes overlap or reference each others' posts. That happens for a number of reasons, but the biggest one is that we usually spent at least an evening or two a week together when she was here in Boston. Now Molly's moved on to an awesome job in a whole other state and her allusion to getting it, despite a less than perfect interview, was still overlapping with what I was thinking about. Lately I've been doing a battery of phone and in-person interviews for my company (again). I'm learning a lot about what to do and more of what not to do.

Here's some quick advice to those of you looking to start or change careers out there:

You better think. Take a second to consider the question that you are being asked and why. All too often people rush to answer and miss the mark.

This is only a test. Recently I've been working with a manager who has adopted some brief in-interview tests. At first this freaked me out. I didn't want my little, carefully selected interview candidates to freak out. But, that was half the test. Whether or not someone can add sets of numbers in their head is important when they are applying for a job that utilizes basic math. Just as important is how they react to being asked to do so on the spot. To my relief, many people handle it well, and it almost disarms them to see themselves sweat a little, then succeed. Keep cool and don't be afraid to laugh.

Dress for success. An oldie but a goodie. My Developmental Psych teacher was a big believer of this one, and always told us to get up early and dress well on test days. Even if it is a casual office, wear something that is appropriate, that makes you feel powerful, and something non-generic. As tempting as it is, particularly when you're new to the working world, to work that basic black suit to no end, it does nothing to help jog my memory. There is no substitute for great qualifications or exceptional skills, but clothes show personality and can give confidence. I love the outfits Molly put together for this post.

A well dressed pair of applicants

When someone asks about you, tell them about you. One of the most interesting questions I like to ask is "What's not on your resume that you think would be good for me to know?" Consider it before you have your next interview. Channel those lame freshman orientations if you have to, but you know interesting things about yourself. You know marketable things about yourself. And your interviewer, until you tell them, does not. At one interview I attended, a candidate for a technical position left her retail experience off her resume. When it came up in her interview, the hiring manager asked her not to downplay such experience as customer service was a huge part of what our company was all about. Company culture is a big part of hiring and you are more than a set of skills or a degree.

Follow up, follow up, follow up. It's not just perfunctory. In my job, I've seen over 200 people apply for one entry level position. It is difficult to get to everyone, but people who thank me for the interview, or people who pose follow up questions, simply position themselves in my inbox. Word of warning: As much as you might want to, you do not control the response of the company to which you are applying. I actually got an initial email from an applicant who gave me 3 steps of how to let him know if he was NOT being considered for the position. Please be polite and considerate of other people's circumstances when you follow up.

Last but not least, sometimes you just make mistakes during an interview. Never give up! Even the most egregious of errors can be forgiven for the right candidate.

Well, that sure was an adult perspective! I feel it's necessary to tell you all that I work in an office with lime green walls, where it is not uncommon to get pranked with a handsome cardboard cutout we've dubbed Chad, and with people who conduct entire conversations with quotes from Arrested Development. No one there is entirely grown up, least of all me.

Interview with Grecian Grace

I would like to introduce you all to BU Graduate, Red Sox fanatic, Grecian Goddess, J.Crew obsessed, and hands-down hilarious...Jaime Argyriadis. My girl reigns from the Cape Cod region of Massachusetts but has made her way all around Europe and back again with some of the greatest stories to ever touch this site. If there was ever a specific company and style to crave, I would specifically recommend my lady, Jaime.

1. My dream home will have: A view of the ocean! I grew up by the water, on a man-made island only accessible by bridges. My dream home will be surrounded by waves.

2. The wackiest thing about my family: We have Ouzo on tap in my kitchen and there is a hand-made spit and brick oven in my grandfather’s backyard, with which we cook lamb and goat at family holidays.

3. The piece of clothing I will never be without: I cannot see myself going anywhere without a cardigan. I love cardigans. Colorful, dark, shiny, simple, thick, light, oversized, fitted: they are perfect and are integral in any wardrobe. They are perfect for travelling, layering, for comfort or glamour, with a belt, with a shirt underneath, buttoned as a shirt, tucked into a skirt, beneath a sassy leather jacket and more. I couldn’t live without my cardigans. I have approximately 30 (maybe more), in various shapes, sizes and colors. They are color-coordinated in my closet according to hue and fabric. It’s a sickness. I can’t deny it, and I’m not ashamed.

4. Words I live by: There is no easy way from the earth to the stars. All you need is love. Live and let live. No regrets.

5. The five people at your ideal supper: This is something I think about often and have never come up with a conclusive answer for. I have now thought long and hard and present to you my 5 ideal dinner guests:
My idol in almost every single way, I have a dedicated obsession with Jackie O. (And the rest of the Kennedys...) She was passionate, beautiful, smart, independent, effortlessly stylish and a fiercely protective mother. The older I get I see just how hard it is to be as meticulously graceful as Jackie always managed to be.

Jane Austen. I began reading Pride and Prejudice for the first time when I was 10 years old. I understood almost none of it, but I re-read it at least once each year, have studied it in a college course, and have watched both film renditions dozens of times. I love each of her novels for different reasons, and I am convinced Jane and I would have been BFFs. Convinced.

My Papou. Papou is my paternal grandfather, and possibly my favorite person on this earth. He is heartbreakingly adorable, funny and kind. I could totally see good ol’ George charming the socks off both Jackie and Jane, (we all know how Jackie felt about older Greek men.)

Anyone who knows me knows I am a J.Crew-obsessed girl (please re-visit the cardigan paragraph). Someone I’d DIE to have at this dinner is Jenna Lyons who singlehandedly turned J.Crew into the brand it is today. She’s fresh and smart, great at what she does, seems super down to earth, and I would love a chance to peep in her closet. Best Jenna Lyons fun fact: She lets her 3-year-old son pick out her shoes every morning.

Pudge Fisk after the “waving fair” home run in Game 6 in ’75. Hands down one of my favorite sports memories ever (although I wasn’t alive). His 33 is my favorite number, and I always have a soft spot for him. He always had a smile on his face.

6. On Sunday mornings you'll find me: Hm, depends. In bed? On the beach? Wherever I am, I’m either reading a book or watching a movie. I do very little else.

7. The song that sums up my life so far: This is an unfair question which I feel Miss Molly has put here to drive me crazy. How can there be one song that sums up practically 22 years of living? Songs are transcendent; they are magical and emotional and give way to the deep and honest roots within a person. There are so many songs that one can relate to on various levels, in different moments, and different cycles or phases of life. How can I choose just one? I’m going to rip the band-aid. Rather than take the time to think about it, I’m going to close my eyes, think about myself, and pick the first song that feels right, that makes me smile or react convincingly enough for me to display it here for you all to read. Ready? Done: "Juicy" by Notorious BIG.

That was easier than I thought. I rose up like my boy Biggie. What once was a dream is now a reality. East coast 4eva. Honeys play me close like butter plays toast. Now I feel vulnerable to the blogosphere.
8. The most dangerous thing I have ever done: I haven’t done it yet. Still waiting.

9. When I grow up: I want to be happy. Have a family, a career, a great community of friends. I want to keep travelling, and learning. Mostly, I want to stay young no matter how old I get. I guess, as a self-proclaimed Peter Pan, I don’t want to ever really grow up.

10. The flower that is sure to make me smile: Hydrangeas remind me of home, summer, my mother and are usually very good at making me smile. They’re gorgeous if you dry them, put them on a Christmas tree (á la Martha Stewart), in a bouquet, or just leave them alone. I love hydrangeas of every color. I love their simplicity and I love that they are truly representative of New England where I grew up.

From Your Loving Cup

This is the fine, fine moment that introduced me to Miss Sharon Jones. She's the shorter of those fantastic backup divas helping to create the amazing cover of Rolling Stone's "Loving Cup" from the album Exile on Main Street (most likely, the best album title of all time) with Phish at Festival 8. My brother and I drove home after Phish 3D listening to 100 Days, 100 Nights and I instantly became a forever fan of Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings.

I played her for my Dad yesterday and as he tried to guess who it was (a family game that keeps us musically in check), I kept exclaiming, "it's not Aretha, no not Tina either!" At 54 years old, an ex-prison guard, and a voice that could put any modern artist to shame, Sharon Jone's brings back the funk and revives the soul. My Dad sat with Sharon for a while and finally said, "it's great to hear that sound, because you never want to lose those roots of music." No, we never want to lose that, because then Katy Perry might wake up in Connecticut and not Vegas.

Here is a mix to keep you dancing under the sun, all weekend long!

Soup for Summer

I have always said that if I were to eat one meal for the rest of my life, it would be a variation of soup (yes, I do think I could create a chocolate soup). I love to eat soup, I love to make soup, I love to come home smelling the aromas of soup, I just simply love soup! The problem is, when a day like yesterday rolls around (nearly 92 degrees), nothing except an iceberg seems appetizing. That's when I thought of the yummy stuff I tasted from here when I was here. Gazpacho soup is the perfect varieties of flavors for a hot, hot day and the chilled temperature make it comfortable to enjoy under the summer sun. So I decided to browse my favorite cookbooks, this and this, to see if I could whip up my own homemade Gazpacho for Memorial Day. Turns out Miss Mollie Katzen had exactly what I was looking for.

Ingredients

4 cups cold tomato juice (I use V8 juice)
1/2 cup finely minced onion
2 cups freshly diced tomatoes
1 medium bell pepper, minced
1 teaspoon honey (optional)
1 medium, seedless and peeled cucumber, diced
2 scallions, chopped
Juice of 1/2 lemon and 1 lime
2 tablespoons wine vinegar
1 teaspoon each of dried tarragon and basil
1/2 tsp cumin
1/4 cup freshly chopped parsley
2-3 tablespoons olive oil
salt, black pepper, and cayenne- to taste

Combine all ingredients into food processor and puree. Chill until very cold.

I like to top with a dash of sour cream, a few diced tomatoes, and fresh parsley. Then serve with a fresh baguette or some Stacy's pita chips!

Memorial Day is right around the corner and I'm getting all butterflies in the belly just thinking about BBQs with my besties! We used to love dancing around our hometown parade picking up leftover candy that the kiddies missed in the overgrown grass, lighting sparklers as twilight rolls around, and stuffing our faces full with fantastic picnic grub.

This patriotic holiday has always marked the beginning of summer fun for my girly group. Those lucky enough to have pools, open them up and prepare for months of chicken fights and marco polo. The town beach unlocks its gate with an incredible sand castle contest and everyone's favorite amusement park kicks off quarter night for townies every Friday.

But there is more to be desired now that we are a bit older and will have much to discuss around the picnic tables this weekend. To prepare for the inevitable "Congratulations on Graduation, now what to do with your life?" we must arm ourselves with many a patriotic pieces to distract from any abstract answers. Although, I can't help but brag, my girls can talk the talk better than the most embellished politicians, we just don't mind looking rather good while we're at it.

Farewell Sweet Caroline

I have had the most incredible week. It began with a few magical days snuggling close and kindly with my girl of girls and I quickly realized how excited I am to head back home and reconnect with ALL my fantastic girlies. I missed them quite fantastically during the college years and we have a number of things to catch up on.

Then I bid farewell to my Boston abode with some Sweet Caroline at Fenway park. Surprised? no? no. Despite numerous close encounters with high-speed foul balls (they really should tell folks to bring a helmet) it was a game to be remembered. A sunny afternoon, rounds of overpriced bud lights, and those awesome Sox fans. I found myself a bit teary eyed as I walked down Landsdowne a final time.

The rest of the week was spent working on EarthFest. A project I have been looking forward to since I began my internship here, just short of 5 months ago. It required heavy lifting and many early mornings, but the incredible crew, perfect May weather, and dedicated Bostonians who attended, made yesterday an absolute success. I could not have asked for a better celebration to end my time in Boston and welcome new beginnings.

Oh, good golly, did I tell you? This Miss Molly (that's me) was employed last week! Yes. Totally freaking exciting and most definitely lucky. How did I do it? Well, my horrific interview is entirely for another day's post. But I will let you know that interview season is also allergy season. I guess my hack-attack didn't ruin this opportunity but who knows. So all ya'll post-grads, I might recommend bringing a bottle of water and cough drops with that sparkling resume.

I have to say, Alvy Singer, that's not completely true. College wasn't terrible, it was rather bearable and sometimes quite hysterical. I even think I learned a thing or two.

Friday was graduation. So if you were concerned that my disappearance was caused by Beantown's dirty water mishap or maybe a pack of Bostonian hungry wolves, you can put your minds at ease, I was only celebrating my final days as a student. As I walked across that stage and was handed my diploma, not a thing in the world could erase my smile. Maybe because our faces were on massive jumbotrons for a packed Bank of America Pavilion, but also because I finally felt that pride and accomplishment that everyone else kept acknowledging. Sixteen years of school, a couple down in kindergarten, and a small stint in pre-school is a really long time and a whole lot of learning.

Well MO, there is no plan. If there is something that sixteen years of education has taught me, it's that life changes far too quickly and enormously to live according to plans. So for now, dearies, I will continue to search out the most loveliest of lovely on our blogosphere and share it with you. I will discover opportunities like an explorer of a new world and keep on exploring when that land no longer feels like home. And of course, I will love the loves I have loved and forever try to love new loves!

That inspiring girl over at Contented Me has introduced us to more new and beautiful things. See, ever since I discovered Kristin's super-awesome Chicago blog, I find myself constantly adding items to the never-ending wish list revolving on my desktop. Most recently? Spool No.27.

Check it:

Spool's Native America affected collection allows for the most feminine details and colorful patterns. The designers combine salvaged textiles to create casual looks. I'm especially loving this for its unique triangle back and this for the sweat-not chiffon fabric. Being a huge advocate of the scarf, I'm thrilled about this sheer, oversized wrap I can rock all year. I have been determined to find a quaint, white, graduation dress and I'm proud to say this has ended my quest. I've been skeptical to purchase a romper, but this one just might be a summer staple. This mossy green necklace is the most darling detail for this ruffled tank that initially inspired today's post.

I've recently become enamored with table settings. I'm fascinated with the creativity that transcends a dinner party to a more romantic, eccentric, or relaxing atmosphere. The strong use of centerpieces, candles, linens, and the general decor of a room can change your entire dining experience. What's more, is that you can do this all yourself. Picking wildflowers to place in a mason jar or an old tea tin with draped lights or dramatic tapers for a special glow, can make your table unique and memorable for your guests.

Here are some of my favorite table designs from Once Wed:

I have always been a fond of paper lanterns around a table, like the ones in our first photo. I think it creates this magical orient to an evening. Do you not love the idea of canvas covered haystacks for seats?! So cozy and fun. In the third photo, the mix-matched plates and colorful quilts make for a light-hearted picnic with friends. I have never been a fan of pink decorations, but I think the fuchsia napkins and bright gerber daisies are exactly what the rustic design in our fourth table needed. Outdoor dinners can be difficult, especially when it comes to lighting, but stringing some bulbs overhead will ensure a long night of food and chatter. Now for your fancy affair, we must be elegant with natural greens and delicate whites!

Today is the 40th anniversary of Earth Day. Some 15 years ago, I remember taking a trip to Washington DC on Earth Day and watching a big floating globe in the air. There were lots of fun eco-crafts and a big quilt that we all signed to support a greener life. From that day on, I have tried my best to reduce my carbon footprint.

A big thing lately, is eco-fashion. Sure, five years ago this meant hemp dresses and patched pants, or something that a wookie (modern hippie who hasn't bathed due to long jam-band tours) would wear at a Phish show. But now, top designers have joined the green movement and started using softened bamboo or silk organza to create gorgeous earth-friendly dresses.

The Riot Review

What a night. Thanks to the amazing folks at Second Glass, The Wine Riot was by far one of the most enjoyable evenings I have had in Boston yet. You can be sure I'll be back for more in October.

Accompanied by my brother and two friends, we soaked up the reds and the whites, some pinks and even a few bubbles. The more we drank, the more we learned. I have a whole new appreciation for organic wine after sitting in the "Wines with a Conscience" crash course, hosted by Mendocino Wine Company. After, I went right over to booth #21 to try Yellow + Blue's cabernet. This environmentally friendly boxed-wine (aka, Tetra Pak) reduces their carbon footprint by eliminating gas emission from costly distribution.

There were 250 wines at the riot and I was determined to try as many as possible. In order to keep pace with the tasting, we hydrated with bottles of Smart Water and nourished with pizza slices from Upper Crust. I even tried some gazpacho soup from Masa, a spicy South End restaurant.

Second Glass brought more than just food and wine to the table last night. We dressed up in hats and purple boas and held signs to take pictures in their hilarious photo booth.

We also got tattoos! Don't worry Mom, they're fake.

It was really hard to decide, but I've created a list of my top five reds and whites to help you out with your next wine purchase.

May is just around the corner and as the days get warmer, the faces get brighter. Come mid-April, the gym seems a little more crowded, tanning salons have those enticing offers, and pre-summer sales suddenly appear all the way down Newbury Street. I have always dreamt of designing my very own beach house. On my annual Cape Cod vacations, it's tradition to visit the Christmas Tree Shop with Mama Dee and pass aisles of thrifty (sometimes tacky) nautical decorations. From navy striped seat cushions to anchor wall hangings, all that's left is an ocean view and we're ready to move in! The best part of a beach home is the opportunity to be creative.

Don't get me wrong, I love seersucker as much as the next New Englander, but a little sparkle and shine can multiply that sun in your Nantucket abode.

That's why I have fallen in love with Elena Colombo's beach town home. This New York sculptor designed an eclectic mix of blues and reds to rev up her sweet bungalow.

Of course, we mustn't limit our wardrobes to Vineyard Vines and Lily Pulitzer, so I've collaborated some apparel that will make statements on the boardwalk.

Becoming a Back Bay Yogi

I have always been a closet yogi, practicing child's pose and high-lunges to the MTV Yoga DVD in my living room when no one was home. You know, the one hosted by Lori from Real World: Back to New York? Of course.

I love the idea of yoga because pregnant celebrities swear by it, but despite years of ballet, I am not very graceful and I have little patience.

Then I move to Boston; home to millions of marathon runners, powerhouse pilates, bikram yogis (bikram?!), and other strange workouts that will blow your mind. I constantly see those yogis carrying their brightly colored mats, eco-friendly water bottles, and dressed head-to-toe in lululemon apparel. How I love that lululemon...

Well not so long ago, the Grown Up Lady and I took a relaxing yoga class at Brookline's own, Studio, sponsored by the awesome folks at SBS. Carly is a yoga newbie like myself, and we were happy to see many of our classmates shared our newbie-ness. Between the stretching, the meditation, and my purple Calvin Klein yoga pants, I was at my utmost comfort. I knew I had fallen under the yoga spell, and it wasn't just the lavender aromas.

A month later, I am craving some more "Namaste" in stretchy pants. My mission: a not-so-intimidating studio with fun instructors for an affordable price. I guess I'm on a mission to find my "Chakra." This, friends, is not easy in Boston. I loved the Studio, but for the price, I'd like something a bit bigger. I have picked out five studios and plan to visit each within the next two weeks to test them out, get a vibe, and find a price!

The Wine Riot

Ok so I know I've been talking champagne and orange juice, but another thing you should know is that somehow, by age 22, I have managed to establish myself a full-blown wine snob. I blame my mother. She's so picky about her wine that if she opens up a well-reviewed, nicely priced Malbec and discovers "it doesn't sit right on her palette" it will move right next to our stove, only to be used in meat reductions. I never meant to turn out this way. In fact, I used to drink wine out of a box! "Blasphemy," my mother would snub.

In my high taste of the grape, I'm excited to announce a very special event in Boston on April 16th & 17th. The Wine Riot, hosted by Second Glass, is an expo-style wine tasting bringing old and new winos to sample over 250 wines from around the world! The riot will take place at Cyclorama in trendy South End. On Friday, April 16, check out "Night of the Bubbles" from 7-11pm, exploring sparkling wine, champagne, cava, prosecco, and more. Easter Menu

So Easter has come and gone, but the memory still remains in my mind...and maybe a bit on my hips. It was a whirlwind effort in the kitchen between Mama Dee, Grown Up Lady Me, and I, as we chopped, seasoned, sauteed, and deglazed (something new I learned). I am proud to say, it was a succulent success.

Here Comes Peter Cottontail!

Connecticut is a sunny 68 degrees and with the double holiday tomorrow, I could not be happier. It is every so often that my big bro, Colin, (also, Grown Up Lady Me's "Mr. Ginger") gets to celebrate his birthday on Easter. What has this meant for the rest of us? More cadburys, more peeps, more cake, more everything, especially potatoes--boy loves his potatoes! The Easter bunny has a big job on this special occasion...

Even when Easter doesn't fall on Colin's birthday, I have always enjoyed this holiday. I love the pastel decorations, the easter egg hunts, the way it brings in Spring so nicely, and how everyone is so pleasant.

But like most events in my life, Easter comes with its set of memories and traditions that keeps me fond of it, even now that I'm older.

One Shirt, Two Suits

The relentless job search comes with one endearing prospect, new clothes! The dreaded interview, complete with sweaty palms, stammering thoughts, and a killer pencil skirt.

I can't freaking wait.

Joplin Fringe

I have always admired those girls that look effortlessly boho. They're like a little bit Miller, a little bit Olsen, but whether they know it or not, a whole lot Joplin and Baez. Much of my style amounts from the music I'm currently obsessing over (see right column for clues). Unfortunately, living in a dorm sometimes means not listening a whole lot during those wee hours, so lately my outfits have been a bit quiet. But since Boston's current fixation is the "drowned-rat" look, I haven't much to worry.

Once my schizo city decides to put on a happy grin and shine some pretty rays, I plan on blasting some Bobby McGee and rocking the fringe. See, I'm convinced that fringe is the key. Janis did it, Joan did it, and now, so are Sienna and Mary-Kate. They also add lots and lots of suh-weet accessories. Need em? Well Etsy's a great place to start, because you'll never find another Ram Ring like this. For less expensive finds there's always that reliable Forever 21. For quirky discoveries with old stories, head to a nearby thrift store...a lesson G-Ma Murphy taught me and I am not soon to forget.

Always in the Mood for Food!

So I was just tumbling along on this slow-moving Saturday morning, when I suddenly spotted

OMG your mouth's drooling too? It's ok, I'm glad we're all craving cupcakes so early in the morning. I was transferred from tinywhitedaisies fabulous tumblr, to the you-will-die just reading the delicious words of these recipes on Donal Skehan's, The Good Mood Food Blog. One question, where have you been all my blogging life?! But the best part? She's Irish! Alas, a girl from my homeland to shush my Italian stepdad about my heritage lacking quality food, (he's an incredible cook). Hoo-ray, we are not all meat and potatoes after all!

This dining diva whips up everything from cocktails, yes I mean martinis not just a how-to on pouring Guinness, to stiry fry, goulash, and even an Italian carbonara (ya heard Randy??).

I am super pumped to put these recipes to the test. First on the list are these Blackberry Vanilla Cupcakes, because now they're in my head and they won't leave until I have a bite. Plus, I'm thinking they might go perfect for a certain Grown Up Lady Me's belated Birthday song after Sunday dinner.

Blackberry Vanilla Cupcakes

This recipe makes delicious, light and moist cupcakes with a fruity taste.

Makes 12 cupcakes

For the cupcakes:

1 cup flour

2 tsp. baking powder

1 tsp. salt

6 tbsp. unsalted butter, at room temperature

1 cup sugar

2 eggs

1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

1/2 cup milk

1/2 cup blackberry coulis

For the frosting:

8 oz. cream cheese, at room temperature

3 cups powdered sugar, sifted

2 tablespoons blackberry coulis

Blackberries for decoration

To make the cupcakes, preheat the oven to 180c. Line a cupcake pan with paper liners. In a small mixing bowl, stir together the flour, baking powder and salt. Set aside. In the bowl of an electric mixer, cream together the butter and sugars on medium-high speed until light and fluffy. Add in the eggs one at a time, scraping down the bowl between additions.

In another bowl or liquid measuring cup, whisk together the milk and blackberry coulis. Add half of the dry ingredients to the bowl of the mixer and mix on low speed until just combined. Mix in the blackberry coulis/milk mixture. Mix in the remaining dry ingredients on low speed just until incorporated. Do not over-mix.

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared paper liners. Bake 12-15 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow to cool in the pan 10-15 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack and allow to cool completely.

To make the frosting, combine the cream cheese, powdered sugar and blackberry coulis in the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment. Mix on medium speed until smooth and well blended. Frost cooled cupcakes as desired and garnish with fresh blackberries.

An hour ago, there were flurries outside my stuffy window. Yes, on the streets of Boston, on this almost April morning, it was snowing. After days of ranting and raving about the upcoming warm weather and overly anticipating for spring I was kicked back to quiet down, this is New England after all. So on this 36 degree day (ouch), I can't hep but think of a story I heard over at Grown Up Lady Me. My friend Carly told a tale, in that amazing way she does, about a little girl walking with her mom on a shockingly nice Boston afternoon. This optimistic and awesomely imaginative youngin' suddenly exclaimed, "in the summertime, all the plants are going to come up and march down the sidewalks with me." Can you imagine? A plant parade we shall call it, little girl! I can't wait. You need to read the rest of Carly's story here. (p.s. it's her birthday, so shout her out!)

Rock Down To Electric Avenue

Last season, when brights and neons were all the rage, I was off searching for ear plugs to block the screaming sounds of Cutting Crew and Huey Lewis. For some reason I could accept leggings, but electric pink was taking it too far back to 1988. Now this year, I'm just craving warm weather so I can paint on some ecstatic purple polish. I have no reasoning behind my sudden change of heart, but I think it has something to do with a trip to Mexico and a whole lot of yappy sorority girls from Minnesota. These girls made a shocking yellow swim suit hot and fun, not like Jessie from Saved By The Bell with a scrunchie. So come 70 degrees, I'm going to take a walk down Electric Avenue, even if I'm holding hands with Eddy Grant in 1982, and pray it wasn't just the heat of Cancun or too many Margaritas.

Ray Allen Raises Awareness for Juvenile Diabetes

Being a local Celtics fan, I simply cannot ignore the great Ray Allen's recent dunk for charity. The shooting superstar has teamed up with Muze, a clothing brand that combines pop culture tag lines with modern graphics, to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Allen's 3-year-old son, Walker, was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in June of 2008.

The T-Shirt's design is truly inspiring. You'll notice a paper plane taking off and flying through various colored basketballs. Muze designer and CEO, Bill Deacon, explains this illustrates Ray Allen's life. The paper plane represents his childhood on a US Air Force base, while the colorful basketballs display Allen's career path beginning at Lincoln High to the University of Connecticut, Milwaukee, Seattle, and finally, Boston, as #20 on the Celtics. The W.W.J.S.D. stands for “What Would Jesus Shuttleworth Do?” a tribute Ray Allen's character in Spike Lee’s “He Got Game."

Although the front is very thoughtful, I think the back of the shirt is my favorite. The movie line, “No journey is too great, when one finds what he seeks,” from the 80's classic and Ray Allen's favorite, "Coming to America" in Ray’s own handwriting. It is apparent how dedicated Allen is with this charity and finding a cure for his son.

The Garden Brunch

After a weekend of gorgeous Spring days and walking through the early bloom of the Boston gardens, I am reminded of one of my favorite warm weather traditions, brunch! Bostonians love brunch almost as much as they love beer and it is never a shock to see lines from the city's best restaurants out to the streets on Sundays as groups eagerly await a patio table to enjoy an omelet and a mimosa, or two. Some of the best Boston brunches can be found at Stephanie's on Newbury, The Beehive or Paramount in the South End, Sofra in Cambridge, or Zaftigs in Coolidge Corner. If you're interested in a traditional Irish or English breakfast, hit up the pubs like Matt Murphy's in Brookline or The Squealing Pig in Mission Hill. For a healthy bagel sandwich and organic iced coffee, there's no place like Bagel Rising in Allston Rock City.

Of course, like most aspects of my life, when I venture out I venture all-out. So when Sunday brunch comes calling, so does my wardrobe. What do you wear to brunch on a sunny Boston morning? I've always advocated for matching your dress to your drink, I find it's more appealing to city spectators, paparazzi glamour shots, and poetic consonance. I also discovered that nothing matches mid-day juice cocktails quite like a floral sundress. It's classy, it's cute, and the bright colors will inevitably hide any puffy eyes leftover from Saturday evening's engagements.

Mad as a Hatter

I finally saw Alice in Wonderland last night and despite contradictory reviews, I thought it was wonderful! Johnny Depp was, of course, amazing as the Mad Hatter and Mia Wasikowska was positively stunning, a perfect Alice. Tim Burton put his imagination to the ultimate test in creating a genius Wonderland and all the characters fit beautifully with those in Lewis Carroll's story. Two things I could have done without, the 3D and Anne Hathaway. Never truly been a fan of either, but neither forced a turnoff. If you have not seen Alice in Wonderland yet, I highly recommend it for an evening escape!

My dear friend, Betsy, has created her Wonderland on polyvore and I just can't get enough of Alice's dress! I'm dying to throw a Mad Hatter Tea, complete with costumes, vintage tea cups, a few pots of gin-infused tea dangling notes, "Drink Me," and of course a croquet game. I just need some Wonderland weather for this outdoor occasion!

In this morning's email, I learned about the Austrian vintage brand, Bows & Bandits. After visiting their website here, I instantly began loading up a shopping bag. Then I realized, as I often do when visiting international sites, that 22 euro means a lot more to my credit card. My shopping bag got a bit smaller after numerous conversions. But trust me, the one-of-a-kind finds are worth the international rate.

The Material Girl

Just two days ago, Madonna reported to WWD and Vogue UK that she is moving to some new sounds, the fashion beat. That's right, the Material Girl herself is launching her very own fashion line in a 50/50 venture with Iconix Brand Group Inc. The launch, to be called MG Icon LLC, will be a series of projects in the fashion retail industry. Vogue UK reports that Madonna will first launch at Macy's with a junior line called what else, Material Girl, and eventually team up with a designer label for an eyewear collection. The Queen of Pop was quoted saying, "I look forward to working closely with Neil and his team to create and translate my vision and ideas for MG Icon."

I love Madonna but all I can say is, thank god Madge's style has evolved since "Like a Virgin." I wish her all the best in the fashion industry because I think Lady Gaga has taken the pop seat in music. Also, Gaga please do not start a fashion line for at least 10 years. I'm not quite ready to browse racks of gothic bondage and leather masks.

A Week in Paradise

Hello friends! I have safely arrived back to the states after an amazing and relaxing week in Mexico. My resort was beautiful and the ocean was incredible except for a brief moment of panic after realizing I was caught in the riptide. The group was a blast, always up for anything whether it was choreographing a synchronized swim or holding a monkey. Other times we would go to sleep at 9:30 or watch episodes of Las Vegas in our hotel room. It never really mattered because we were together and that, mixed with sunshine, made the trip amazing. Overall, spring break was way better than MTV ever let on. Although I am sweetly refreshed after seven days napping poolside, I find myself quite travel hazy and unsurprisingly sun-scorched, despite excessive use of the No-Ad. So tonight I must be brief and hope tomorrow to jump right back into things because I have so much to talk about! Also, I'd like to welcome all my new friends and thank you so much for following!

I couldn't resist to add a bit of fashion. Our last night we visited La Isla for shopping and dinner when we stumbled upon this. The store's design, book shelves of denim, a velvet sofa, and chandeliers is enough to satisfy your visit, but the clothing is another. I highly recommend doing some online shopping at Rhapsody for additions to your summer closet.

Spring Break

In a moment of weakness I couldn't help but brag to my "older" friend that the highs all next week are to be "85 degrees babyyy!" She simply put me back in my place by replying, "shut up, College girl." At this I realized, not for long. This might very well be my last spring break and of course I'm doing it in the most stereotypical way--Cancun. Although, after venturing to Spain last year during my semester abroad, I'm perfectly ok with an all-inclusive party in Mexico right here. One full week of beach, sun, salsa, and Coronas with a group of amazing people is exactly what I need before graduation.

So what does one need when Cancun-bound? Here's what will be checked in my luggage.

1. Sunscreen SPF 45 - Unlike previous spring breaks, I have neglected the pre-vacation tanning. I have become very serious about skincare lately and I'm praying I don't get burned this week. I like NO-AD because it's water-resistant, UVA/UVB protection, and it's only $10 for 16 oz.

2. Havianas- My favorite black sandals with the brazilian flag. My sandals broke in Rome last year because of the dreaded cobblestone and I was forced to buy these. Do you hear me? Forced! If it weren't for the snow I never would have taken them off. I plan on wearing my old reliable saucony's to the airport and these the rest of the week!

3. St. Ives Apricot Scrub- Nothing gets the sea and salty air off like this inexpensive facial scrub. I love it and use it religiously.

4. Sedu Sea Salt Spray- I hate showering after the beach because I love how my hair looks after the wind, the salt, and the sun. But, I know that in all other ways it is just gross. So my solution on vacation? Sedu! A magical spray that puts healthy ingredients in your hair replicating your previous beach blown look.

5. Sunglasses- So even though I raved about my favorites here, this terrible thing happened! Somehow, after booking a trip to Mexico, purchasing my Senior Commencement Ball ticket, and celebrating numerous February birthdays, my bank account is completely empty! I can't believe it either. So when I run home to Connecticut tomorrow, I will find sunglasses on a budget and I can't wait to tell you all about them. Hopefully they'll look something like a RayBan replica.

Of course I'll be throwing some other things in my obvious "I'm-from-Connecticut" Vera Bradley Duffel, like...

- Water-proof mascara. I'm hoping with a little tan this will be all the makeup I'll need.

- 2 Bikinis (one black, one polka dot)

- Sundresses galore!

- Tote bag and Clutch (one for day, one for night)

- Aquaphor. My lifesaving healing ointment for dry skin anywhere.

- A hat. I'm on a search for a floppy or a fedora, but stylish sun protection is a must!

- My favorite James Jeans, just in case.

- One sweater, just in case.

- Mixes to match with. I'll be bringing a lot of dependable neatural colors.

- Accesories! I hear the jewlery markets in Mexico are amazing. Since I am passed the hair braiding phase, I might indulge.

I adore Natalie Portman. She's one of those girl crushes I acquired because she was someone I always wanted to be. She went to Harvard- a fellow bostonian, has exceptional taste in music- rockin' to everything from Beirut to The Ying Yang Twins (her favorite is The Whisper Song), and has flawless style, reminiscent of your typical girl next door with that undeniable sex appeal. In the February issue of Elle UK, Natalie stirred up a cover story of gorgeous poise revealing her humor and beauty.

I've been spending a lot of time on the new tumblr, flumetoeden.tumblr.com, and I have come across the most inspiring sites. This morning I discovered a little project called "I Made This For You" by a lovely couple on Something's Hiding in Here. Their 15 week DIY thoughtful exchanges were also featured on Poppytalk.

It started with Shauna & Stephen.

The couple showed us how to make simple, inexpensive, and thoughtful gifts.

One week, Stephen makes something for Shauna and the next week, Shauna makes something for Stephen.

Stephen created this inspirational paper cup design in a fence that Shauna walks by every day.

Shauna knows the way to her man's heart is through his stomach, so she made him a heart shaped sandwich to pack for lunch.

Sharing brunch on a Sunday, the couple enjoyed homemade pancakes topped with heart-shaped bananas.

I feel like my existential crisis, which you can refresh on here, has a lot to do with this idea of space. I am so easily affected by my environment that my mood can go from bubbly to grumbling with a passing rain cloud. It's not just the weather that effects me, although it certainly adds great weight, it can be anything from where I work to where I sleep. I have a hard time tolerating walls with nothing on them, black and white furniture, a lack of light, obsessive levels of organization, and no sign of nature.

So, one of my post-grad goals is to create beautiful space. I probably will not become an interior designer, but I will design my interior. I realize I can't be so picky that I turn down jobs based on the color of my desk, so I'll settle for a desk to come home to and a bedroom where dreams come true. I think it'll make blogging much more fun also!

What a beautiful space needs:

1. Mirrors and lots of them-- I'm obsessed with light, and even better is natural light. Mirrors take what little light Boston has to offer and reflect it for a warmer, brighter space.

2. Windows-- No light to reflect if no light can come in! Windows are so important in my space. My dorm room has the worst windows. Drafty, heavy, modern, depressing. I am on a search for a home with gigantic windows.

3. Color-- Yes, all white decor was once oh-so-vogue. And the black and white office, supposedly "professional." But if you're a professional than do something original! Color is a sign of creativity and color is inspirational, even if only in artwork on the wall. My dear friend Karen, over at Selvage Quilters, made me a beautiful quilt a few years back. After another move back in CT, mom brought it out and I quickly exchanged my all-navy comforter for the handmade quilt. What a difference the color makes!

4. Flowers -- A touch of nature can add an honest breath of fresh air to any space. Mom and I were discussing the "pros" of living in a city and in her dreamlike way she rambled, "I would just love to walk home everyday and pick up some fresh flowers to decorate my apartment!" She's so cute. But really, she's right! Cities and towns everywhere have fresh flower shops and local farmer's markets to pick up a bouquet and spread some natural color around your space.

5. Clutter-- This is where mom and I disagree. She loves things to be neat and tidy. I'd rather a bit of clutter here or there. I'm not talking mounds of clothes, which somehow find their way on my floor every week, but a few knick knacks to make your home feel well-lived. It makes people feel comfortable to explore these items of your space.

6. Books-- An absolutely necessity in my space. I have a dream of collecting enough books to fill the walls of an entire room, or two. I will have my own library one day. Cicero once said, "a room without books is like a body without a soul."
